Richard de Nooy's 10 Favourite Things in & around Cape Town

Richard de Nooy's 10 Favourite Things in & around Cape Town Irma - http://irmadesign.blogspot.com/

If you haven't read any of Richard's books yet, do yourself a favour and order them all immediately. You should also follow him on Twitter and Facebook, because he's an author who actually interacts and shares cool stuff - not someone you constantly feel is trying to sell you something. His books have made me laugh, cry and gasp. And his last book cover was designed by Joey HiFi. His mother has been known to dress to match that very same book cover and his wife came up with the acro-word WTFantastic. The man has enough cool points to buy Alaska. Here are his ten favourite corners in and around Cape Town.

Cape Town Picks

1) The District Six Museum, because I am fascinated by all the history we were never taught at school.

2) A drive around Chapman’s Peak to Noordhoek, because my dear friends in Noordhoek would never forgive me if I didn’t, and the drive itself is a thing of shimmering glory.

3) Lunch at The Foodbarn in Noordhoek, preferably with my dearly beloved teetotaller, driver and editor, who I’m hoping will find this beguiling turn of phrase irresistible.

4) A walk along Noordhoek Beach, where the current runs cold and the crooked dogs run free.

5) A visit to Kalk Bay Books to see Audrey and maybe have dinner at the Harbour House fish restaurant. (I invariably return to Holland with excess baggage.)

6) The Book Lounge on Roeland Street is always a must, partly because many of my friends and fellow writers live there.

7) Cape Town Station, which my wife says is well worth the visit, and then perhaps a train trip out to Simonstown, to see the submarines with friend Rustum, who I’m quietly hoping will also guide me around Paarl sometime.

8) The Airstream Rooftop Trailer Park at the Grand Daddy Hotel, because my wife, the professional traveller, says it’s WTFantastic.

9) The Roundhouse Restaurant, because my wife claims she had to have a thumb and two fingers surgically reattached after eating there.

10) Greenmarket Square, partly because I know my children have become curio connoisseurs, accepting only the very best wire-wound artifacts and leather goods.
