Woodmill Lifestyle Market in Stellenbosch is a monthly affair, held on selected dates (usually last Friday of the month) in the courtyard of the Woodmill Lifestyle Centre.

And to kick off the new year in style, this month the market will be introducing a new feature – something they’ve dubbed ‘Discover Vintage’.

Launching on Friday 31 January 2014, ‘Discover Vintage’ will showcase a variety of ‘elite’ vintage traders displaying and selling their ‘pre-loved gems’. This addition means to complement their existing food and lifestyle offerings and make for a fun evening out.

Pop-up Supermarket in Rondebosch is back

Anyone living in or visiting the Claremont/Rondebosch area recently will have noticed posters going up for the return of theRondebosch Pop-up Super Market.

This small community market originally launched back in September 2013, and we went along in October tohave a looksee.

  1. liked what we saw, and were sad when the market temporarily closed its doors (for various reasons, including festive season craziness and the mourning period that followed Nelson Mandela’s passing). But, happily, they are back and hopefully will be able to build up some new momentum.

The market times have changed, now running from 9.30am to 2.30pm (previously 10.30am-3.30pm)

Venue: Round Table Community Hall at the corner of Keurboom and Chess Roads, Rondebosch.

For more information, visit the market’s profile page or contact organisers on 082 626 1716 or 0833248962 or email   This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Sunday 26 January 2014 (9.30am-2.30pm)

OZCF Community Table at Market Day

  1. Oranjezicht City Farm Market  is definitely one of our favourites on the Cape Markets calendar. It’s fresh, it’s located on a beautiful urban farm (with an uber-view) and it’s very friendly.

And market organisers are always innovating. Last year, the market introduced a Kids Market Day, where budding entrepreneurs were encouraged to try their hands at making and selling their own wares (a great way to earn some pocket money and hone some skills).

And this year the market has launched the OZCF Community Table at Market Day every Saturday (9am to 2pm).

Swellendam Community Clean Up

LET'S CLEAN UP!
Rain would like to challenge all businesses in the Swellendam area to an Environmental Challenge next week Friday, 31st January 2014. All of our factory workers and  Head Office staff will be walking the streets of Swellendam to clean up our beautiful town. We would like to start this exercise early on Friday morning and create awareness about our spectacular surroundings. We would also like to use this opportunity to inform and educate, not only our employees, but the people of Swellendam on the importance of our environment. We urge all businesses to please get involved and help us with this great educational exercise on the environment.

Sunday 27 April 2014 - Fire & Fynbos Awareness Day 2014

Lievland Wine Estate, Stellenbosch.

Fundraising day for the VWS (Volunteer Wildfire Services) held at Lievland Wine Estate, Stellenbosch , Cape Town, South Africa. The VWS is a Registered Non Profit Organisation. Registration Number 2005/027/497/08

Working under the authority or SANParks and Cape Nature, the VWS is becoming an invaluable asset to the Western Cape and especially the communities who border the reserves and wildlands. This unit is made up of brave people. People who shoulder their kitbag, don their PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and head up into the mountains and deep into the valleys. This is not work for the faint-hearted, as the heat and smoke is intense and leads to the ritualistic global firefighter motto "Safety First".

“One Team, Seven Challenges”

Just under 700 multi-sport athletes gathered at Gordon’s Bay Beach Front on Saturday, 11 January 2014 to partake in the action of the 12th annual Totalsports Challenge presented by Liberty Medical Scheme and REHIDRAT® SPORT.  Hugo reclaimed the Totalsports Challenge Champion title completing the 7-disciplined event, which is a combined distance of 123.5km of racing, in an impressive time of 07hours 06minutes 53seconds.

“Finishing second to Stuart Marais in 2013 and crossing the finish line first today were two great experiences for different reasons,” said Hugo.  “The 2013 event was an emotional struggle where I was forced to race till I had nothing left, scraping the barrel.  Today I didn’t have to do that, which is great as I have another race in two weeks time.  Totalsports has invested a lot in multi sport.  As a Totalsports Ambassador I am stoked to bring it home for them today and am very happy to have their label on my chest,” says Hugo.  Brett Van Coller came in second, while Simon Oosthuizen finished third.

Strand Beach at New Year

Madiba Strand is a website about finding the Madiba in yourself to improve the town you live in. It is a positive site of problems and solutions where opportunities are created.

Three main problems exist on our beaches when the holiday season comes to an end and our beaches are left littered.

1. People are uneducated about the environment.
2. There are not enough rubbish bins allocated.
3. Rubbish tips need to be supplied instead of rubbish bins over the festive season.

Three problems require three solutions/opportunities for work to be created.

Soup Kitchen at Sir Lowry's

Pearl has been running the soup kitchen at Sir Lowry's pass village for around eight years. She feeds up to 400 kids per day – breakfast and lunch. Someone was supplying vitamins as well (but not any more), they also give sandwiches to school. She is a lovely lady with a true heart for the community. She plans a lot of things, but get little help. There are plans to start a community development centre next year to get the young people in the right direction, but Pearl is not sure how to go about it. There is a piece of empty plot she can use for it ... but...Also she gets nothing from the government since she doesn't have any partners (and she doesn't trust anyone, as she wants it to all go the THE KIDS). There is a Christmas party planned for tomorrow at the Sir Lowry's pass hall, I do not have details as to what time it is or what is needed. Thanks for caring ... if we all do something. Janine Joubert started a Facebook page for her called UNDER HIS WINGS, which is her place name. If you are keen to help, please contact her. Contact Janine on 0845104359 for more info and to assist.
