LandnSand Rover
LandnSand Rover was a Stellenbosch street cat, before he joined the team as an intern roving reporter. Some say that he can be seen late at night, prowling along Dorp Street to the town centre, in search of hot leads (or a bar that won't inspect his ID card too closely). His interests include fishing, wine and mice and his main ambition is to grow old enough to attend wine tastings. He answers all his own fan mail.

In case you haven't seen it, here's the episode of British series The World's Strictest Parents where the team of Brit brats visited South Africa's very own Western Cape. Out of control teens get a look at some old school parenting, courtesy of a lesbian couple on a farm in Plettenberg Bay.
The kids (including Hamzah, from a very traditional Muslim family) have no idea.

5 Fresh Looks at Western Cape Destinations
At a dead end in the beautiful Cedarberg, is a village called Wuperthal, that time seems to have forgotten. Think thatch and white buildings and you’ll get the picture. Established in 1820 as a Rhenish missionary, some locals were taught to make leather shoes, including the famous South African vellie, velskoen, veldskoen … you know it, right? The things farmers and David Kramer wear. They’re still making them; apparently Nelson Mandela was given a pair when he visited and he put them on straight away.
11 Extreme Western Cape Mountain Passes
A really great website for those of us addicted to roads, roadtripping and the stupendous scenery we're privileged to enjoy in the Western Cape, is Mountain Passes South Africa. At this stage they list 129 passes in this province, each with their own fact file and a narrated video. It's very, very tempting to paste the names of the passes on to a checklist and slowly tick them all off.
It's total roadcandy.
The Western Cape features in a few cool lists of stats too. We have the pass with the longest name, Wildehondskloofhoogte, the oldest pass (Franschoek) and we occupy positions 2, 3 and 4 in their list of the most dangerous passes: Sir Lowry's Pass, Kaaiman's River Pass, Hex River Pass. Naturally enough, there's also the southernmost mountain pass - Akkedisberg near Stanford.
The Prince Alfred Pass is the longest in South Africa, at 80.5km; it also boasts the biggest altitude gain of any pass in the province, climbing 837m. Sjoe! The highest pass in the Western Cape is the Swartberg, at 1576m. The province dominates the national list in terms of gradient steepness, occupying the first 3 spots on the list, with Gouna at 8.26, Heights Rd Wilderness at 8.94 and Elands at 9.03.
