Calling All Hackers and Photographers

September 18, 2013 By:

Nope, not LandnSand. Wikipedia.

You may already have seen some amazing photographs of South African monuments online, showing the September Wiki Loves Monuments photography competition. With 1392 monuments, the Western Cape is well represented. There is still time to enter and there are monuments in both the Helderberg and Overberg to photograph. We'd love to see your photos!

But wait, there's more. The Wikipedia Hackaday is calling for the legal hacking of content to Africanise it for Heritage Month.

"Two major South African media groups, Primedia Broadcasting + the Independent Newspaper Group are seeking tech-savvy Hacks/Hackers members to help 'Africanise' Wikipedia in honour of Heritage Month.

The initial hackday will run in both Cape Town & Jo'burg, at the Radio 702 and CapeTalk offices, and will bring together data journalists, academics and hacktivists.

The initiative targets Wikipedia because it is an open platform that is widely use as a primary reference by both citizens and the app / digitalcommunities."
